Ideas

Recently while watching the "Blue Harvest" episode of Family Guy and the "Anthology of Interest II" episode of Futurama i have began thinking of a few ideas for the animation. In these episodes there is a parody of classic video games in a "real life" world. It is really only a general thought that i may persue but at the moment i am keeping open to more ideas.

In another video game inspired idea i took ideas from my favourite game series "Monkey Island". These games revolve around the trials of a pirate as he travels the Carribean facing all sorts of mishaps. Some of these situations in the game can be easily transferred into a short animation piece ranging from a spitting contest to the insult sword fighting.

All of these are only concept at the moment and will be discussed with the rest of my team when the time comes.

Animation Packages Comparisons

From the last 2 years in the course i have used one or two packages for creating an animation. These range from Flash to ToomBoom to a number of short basic packages online. All of these packages have had both good and bad points which come in to play when deciding what package to use.

Flash

The Flash package is a very good animation package with a good layout. It has a user friendly interface and is good at creating tweenings. The down fall of the package is that it is not the best drawing but can be used in unison with the drawing package Xara X.

ToonBoom

ToonBoom as a package is extremely accessible and usable package. It has a easy to understand layout and has excellant drawing tools. The drawback of the package is that i have recently moved to the latest version and it is a little bit harder to get used to once again.

Both packages have good reasons to justify there usage but for me it has to be ToonBoom. It has the best drawing tools and doesn't require to combine with another package and even though i am not up to full scratch with the new version i feel it is just a matter of time before i am.

The Red Balloon

In response to last weeks task of trying to develop new ideas for The Red Balloon i thought the best idea would be to research the film on youtube. Whilst there i also researched the animator Don Hertzfeldt for my Creative Animation class. In his animation "Billy's Balloon" i saw a story that could easily be a completely new take on "The Red Balloon" story. Below is the a link to the piece.
